One of the more impressive services in the world of browser-based photo editing is Polarr, a web app that launched to the public back in September 2014. In just a handful of months, the 3-person startup has developed a service used by hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

The team tells us that they’ve just released Version 2.0 of the service in Alpha testing stage. It’s an update that delivers a handful of most-requested features submitted by the community.
As you can see from the screenshot above, the new version brings a user interface that’s much more polished and in-line with what programs like Lightroom offer. Here’s what the previous version’s interface looks like:

The first is a new Persistent Editing History feature, something most offline photo editing programs offer. Polarr 2.0 remembers your editing histories not just for the current photo, but previously edited photos across multiple editing sessions as well.

This system allows you to close your browser tab, reopen it, and resume editing a photo you were working on without losing your progress. All changes you make to your photos are remembered and can be undone at any point during post-processing.

Version 2.0 also brings new RAW editing support. The editor now officially supports RAW files from Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Fujifilm, Panasonic and Olympus cameras. Opening them up is ridiculously easy: simply drag and drop the file from your computer into the editor to have it ready for editing in just seconds.

Finally, the overhauled control interface has been redesigned for sleekness, power, and efficiency. The tools and sliders are now contained inside collapsable panels, and a number of the tools have been improved (e.g. cropping, zooming, exporting).

You can currently use Polarr 2.0 without even signing up for a free account. The team tells us its still working on adding new features and controls into 2.0 before it’s officially released to replace the previous version.
